About me

It is my opinion that for counselling to work there are two key factors:
Comfort and Commitment.

You have to feel the counsellor is right for you. I may have been recommended but if I don’t feel right for you, then it will be okay to not have any further sessions. You are going to be talking about difficult issues along with your private thoughts and feelings and both you and I need to feel that you may become comfortable in talking to me.

That is why I offer our first 20 minute session free. This gives us both the opportunity to see if we will be able to work together. Consider whether you feel comfortable speaking to me about any negative thoughts and feelings that you have, do you have confidence in me, do you like my manner? If you are happy to continue after the 20 minutes are up, we will turn the session into your first full 50 minute session.

I will provide a safe environment where I will listen to you, walk alongside you and truly see your story through your eyes. I will believe in the uniqueness of you and your importance and value.

Counselling is a two-way process, both the counsellor and client have to put the effort in, the more effort you put in the better the results are likely to be. Commitment means regular weekly sessions, normally at the same time and day every week.

In the initial sessions you may feel nervous or awkward but this will gradually deplete as time goes on. Counselling is not a cosy chat, or advice-giving but a time for you to be completely honest with yourself.
