self-treat anxiety without a counsellor and control and manage your stress and anxiety levels

anxiety
/aŋˈzʌɪəti/ (noun)
a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome.

That is the dictionary definition of Anxiety. But the dictionary can’t define YOUR anxiety.

Through counselling we will look at your experiences of anxiety, what it feels like for you emotionally and even physically. Together, we will look at how this is impacting on your life, your work and your relationships.

Anxiety is natural. It’s a built-in response to ‘perceived’ threats that allows us to do what is necessary to protect ourselves whenever we encounter danger. This means everyone has this built-in protection, just that for some it is heightened to such a degree that it can make even everyday things seem impossible or appear as a threat.

You have no doubt heard of this built-in response, known as ‘fight, flight or freeze‘, something we have had since tigers were our main cause for concern, Over the years these triggers may have become less life-threatening but they can nevertheless cause very real and deep-seated anxieties.  And with no need to fight or flee any more, this powerful energy has nowhere to go.

When this fight-flight-freeze system is activated, it bypasses your rational mind and puts you into ‘attack’ mode, ready to kill that tiger or run for your life! And with nothing to kill or run from, this energy pattern creates a feeling of unease, worry and psychological fear instead.

This fear can become so exaggerated that it distorts your thinking. And when that distorted thinking becomes the lens through which you see the world, then anxiety has got out of control for you and is potentially running your life through fear and psychological suffering.

Anxiety can affect every area of your life and pretty much every situation that can crop up in it, too.

By talking this through in our counselling sessions, we can begin to understand the triggers that spark your anxiety and work towards a more comfortable way of handling it.
